From intention to action

From intention to action

with Abbie Ing

  • Why is moving with intention important? What do you as a professional, as well as your classroom/school communicate before a word is spoken? Link to pillar 3 (reading culture) – How is reading treated from day 1? How is it carried through when tiredness hits? How it is valued in everyday habits, not just special events?
  • What will pupils notice about reading from the moment they arrive? How do routines communicate what you truly value?
  • What does a successful first week look like for the four elements of the ‘imagining the classroom’ pillar – the learner, educator, classroom & text
  • Look at your timetable – how is reading being brought in and valued?

Dangling the carrot, setting a small achievable challenge – we’d love you to try reading aloud for a set amount of dedicated time, every day, for the first two weeks and reflect on what happens – how did you feel? How did pupils respond? How did it fit in with the school day? Was everyone aligned with the vision? Did you feel trusted and supported as a professional in this action?
